TravelWise on the move!
The TraveWise team had a successful day at the exciting new event Preston the Move, which attracted thousands of visitors to Preston city centre.
Lancashire County Council’s TraveWise & Cycling roadshow recently exhibited at Preston the Move, an annual festival of sport incorporating the established Run Preston 5k, 10k and fun run and City of Preston Grand Prix cycle races. The races were based around the covered market and Flag Market and were supported by a programme of activities including Farmers and Art Markets, street performers and childrens’ activities.
As well as the usual information leaflets and free advice, visitors to the TravelWise and Cycling roadshow could whip up their own fruit smoothie by bike! The bike is connected to a blender so that cycling fans could use their own pedal power to make a refreshing fruit drink, free of charge.
Other exciting and informative features at the roadshow included a virtual reality cycling “computrainer” which gave spectators to the races the chance to ride a perfect simulation of cycling. It attracted everyone from beginners to experienced cyclists with the option to either race against time or just amble along with courses available from 500m to 50km!
Information was available on public transport, walking, cycling and car share in Lancashire to help people decide on the best mode of healthy, sustainable transport for them. People could pick up free timetables for public transport and get expert advice on journey planning. There were also maps on walking and cycle routes in your area, cycling experts on hand to offer advice, and the chance to enter a prize draw to win vouchers for local cycle shops.
